Thoreau Book Reprinted

I am pleased to announce the reprint of A Natural Wisdom: Gleanings from the Journals of Henry David Thoreau. Originally published as a Wood Thrush Books chapbook in 2000, I expanded it and published it again as a slender Heron Dance paperback in 2004. The former is long gone, and the latter is now out of print. So I have expanded it once again, adding a brand new introduction.

Crazy man that I am, I read all of Thoreau’s two-million-word journal back in the 90s. All these gleanings are from a notebook of favorite excerpts collected at that time. I focus on Thoreau the natural philosopher, of course. It has been quite interesting going back and revisiting his work. What a quirky man he was –– almost a quirky as me. And yes, that’s a photo of Walden Pond on the cover that I took last year while hiking around it.

Last year I published Transcendental Nature, which is an anthology of 19th century nature writing. Back in 2017, I published Universal Nature, which is a collection of excerpts from John Burroughs’ writings. Both of those books are still in print, and part of the Wood Thrush Books Nature Writers of the 19th Century series. Eventually I’ll reprint the Ralph Waldo Emerson book and the Walt Whitman book, both currently out of print. Then the series will be complete.

All three of these books can be purchased at my website, woodthrushbooks.com. They are also available at Amazon.com. Check it out.
